As always it was the best.....the beds are delightful, relaxing and the best
sleep in months. The staff is very accommodating, I always have a great stay.

My wife and I enjoyed a special anniversary when we discovered the Avalon Hotel
and Spa, just outside the downtown core on the Willamette River. Great spa with
excellent massage. Spacious suite with fireplace and river views was perfect for
entertaining two other couples who joined us for dinner at the adjacent Aquariva
Italian Kitchen & wine bar. Food and service were outstanding and the view of
the Willamette River while we enjoyed the Oregon wines made for a perfect
evening. Make time to walk the waterfront path into downtown the next morning.

Today, my daughter and I had great spa services at your spa. It was wonderful in
every way. THEN, we walked over to your restaurant for a special lunch. We
ordered a panini and the entree to split between us. After a long wait, the
waiter brought out bread but no bread plate. THEN, the entree came in a little
bowl. The penne was tough and I think I found one shrimp and one dried up piece
of chorizo. The panini came and it was the wrong panini. We tried to eat it but
the cheese was barely melted; it was overall disgusting.
I will never go there again. I can't believe I spent over $40 for the two meals.
Yuk!

We were very excited to stay at the Avalon for a romantic weekend getaway.
However, the $19/night for parking threw us for a loop & then we had a $250
charge on our credit card in addition to the amount we paid initially to stay
there. I am waiting to hear back why we had that extra charge. All in all, when
we visit Portland again, we will not be staying at the Avalon.

Maybe I'm biased, who knows...but being a person who for years was in the
management level of dealing with guests at a 4 diamond boutique hotel...I feel
that I just might know a thing or two about the hospitality industry and the
level of service you should provide guests. This hotel provided everything but.
I arrived at this establishment only to have to wait five minutes for the valet
to walk from the lobby to my vehicle...he didnt provide assistance in opening
the door, with our luggage (or even offer an umbrella).
I had requested that the front desk make reservations for me at a restaurant in
the city that they 'highly recommended'. They called to confirm that this had
taken place. When I arrived, we had to wait over 45 minutes to be seated since
there was no record of a reservation under my name or the hotels. The town car
service was nice, however the driver could have been more professional then
having "gangster rap" (what was stated on radio station) in the car. We
requested turndown service, only to arrive with that not done. In the morning we
requested express checkout (have bill ready) had to wait at the front desk in
the morning. Finally, the valet...19 dollars a day, when the valet simply parked
my car next to the sidewalk in front of the hotel....which is where I pulled the
car up to when I arrived from my evening in town. Very disappointed...I did
enjoy my room, the restaurant they had on site served wonderful veal. |
