Sometimes when you have to travel for a business meeting, it seems
just-like-the-time-before-when-you-had-to-travel-for-a-meeting. Not when you
stay at Marriott Portland City Center. From the time we set foot on the property
to the time we left to go back home, the staff and the accommodations were top
quality. I had a standard King Room with lots of pillows which was very
comfortable with a good work-station and a nice bathroom with granite and
Bed-Bath-and Beyond Products. The meeting room we had was set up
"classroom-style" which is conducive to a good interaction for our group and the
breakfast was great! When it came to lunch we retreated don to the second-floor
restaurant, which was also excellent. All the while we had plentiful personnel
supporting our meeting and making sure things were continuing to run smoothly.
Good stay-good meeting-good job Marriott Portland City Center! Great location
too!

The Marriott at the City Center has a great Lounge. Joel, who is my favorite
bartender, created a type of White Chocolate Martini for me and even named it
after me...The Renatini. Even when I stay at a different hotel, I go to the
Marriott for drinks. Joel could be a bartender/mixologist in Vegas. His talents
aren't being used to his full potential in Portland. He is definitely Vegas
worthy, Thanks Joel for the conversation and the good drinks....especially the
one named after me.

Great place if you are interested in seeing downtown Portland. Plenty of places
to see within walking distance. Hotel staff friendly and have a good knowledge
of downtown Portland.

First I enjoyed the location. Close to everything, right in the center of the
city. The room was roomy! I liked the good sized LCD TV. There is a refrigerator
to use. Lots of pillows, nice! The bath and body works shampoo/conditioner and
lotion was superb! The Wi-Fi was free only at the lobby and works super quick.
If you want Wi-Fi in your rooms you have to pay extra.
Now, the not so good stuff. I expected better service at a Marriott hotel
especially for the price they expect people to pay. But I got a plugged toilet
and a plugged bathtub with a strand of hair. Maybe I would get upgraded to a
better room because of these unwanted intrusions into your holiday but no I had
to wait for their "engineers" to clear them. It was disappointing! Would it be
too hard to check the quality of their plumbing before they offer the rooms to
their guests? The in-room coffee could be of better quality. They could offer
freshly brewed coffee in the lobby like some hotels I have been to instead of
the stuff they put in their rooms. They also charge $3 for a bottle of water,
wow! There is no free parking, only valet parking which is horrendously priced
$32! No free Wi-Fi in the rooms is another strike! No hot tub or pool!
Just a few tweaks, this hotel could be really good.

Pros:
Central location
Small scale, not a massive property
Attentive staff
Nice Concierge Lounge
Cons:
Older property
Pricey parking and rooms
This Marriott thrives on its central location. The property is truly city center
and is in walking distance of major downtown businesses and attractions. If you
don't need a car, avoid the over $30 valet fee and the congestion of downtown.
This Marriott is in need of an update. It has seen better days. Even though I
stayed in an enhanced, hypoallergenic room, the furniture was worn and the
functionality of the room for business (electronic outlets specifically) could
be upgraded. The concierge lounge has a great breakfast and afternoon reception,
though with as many elites that stay at the property it can get crowded. In
total, this is an average property, nothing great but nothing awful.
