I love this hotel after 2 nights. The location may seem a bit off the beaten
path and in kind of a strange part of town but upon a little investigation the
truth is revealed. Sitting right at the end of 23rd Ave not much to see. But
walk up 23rd a block and a half and you are in a trendy mishmash of trendy shops
restaurants and services. I had trouble deciding where to eat there were so many
interesting choices. There is also a convenience store right next door if you
need beer or smokes etc.
As for the hotel, it is a hop and a skip from downtown and the zoo. I drove
around Sunday morning and easily found my way downtown, across the river, and
then into the trendy Hawthorne neighbourhood. Coming back was easy also just
watch for the one way signs. I absolutely love the free parking. Nothing bugs me
more than seeing $30 a day being added to my bill for something that obviously
should be included in the base room price.
The pool, exercise room and hot tub have excellent hours. I haven't tried the
breakfast yet. My room was spotless upon arrival and the Woman (Heather) at the
front desk was very friendly and efficient. I have slept great the last 2
nights. I have heard some noise from the hallway but that is the fault of the
parents not the hotel. Put a leash on your kids would you and stop disturbing
everyone else's quiet time. I don't think I will even try another place when I
come to town next time. This will be the place.

We started staying at this place several years ago, when coming to Portland for
an annual event. Initially the prices were reasonable, although the free
breakfasts were never very good or had much variety. But it met our needs for a
reasonably priced place to sleep and shower. However, in the past couple years
we have been shocked at how expensive the rooms have become! The last time we
stayed here, we only did so because we didn't feel like driving around to look
for another place. Our room was the smallest we've ever had at this place,
barely room to get around in it. And of course they always seem to put all the
guests right next to or on top of each other, even when the place is not full,
so we had noisy neighbours (and obviously very thin walls) all night long. Not
only that, one of the neighbours snored and - I am not lying! - the snoring woke
my partner up in the middle of the night, and after I woke up a little later, it
kept us awake until it became light enough out that we just got up in order to
get away from it. When I mentioned this at checkout, the representative just
said "oh... sorry." The only positive I can think of about this place is that
they had a computer and - if a person could get on it, meaning if someone else
wasn't hogging it for a long time - it could be used to look up information
about nearby attractions and to print out information/directions.

We stayed here before and will always return when we are in Portland. The hotel
has easy access on and off the freeway. The location is great for NW 23rd and
downtown. Free parking and breakfast is a plus. The rooms are nice size and very
clean - beds are comfortable. The staff are always friendly. For the price this
close to downtown this hotel is just a good choice.
